President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed visited New South Quay at the port of Khalifa on Tuesday. Operated in December 2020, the facility has enhanced the port’s capacity to handle a variety of cargo and serve a variety of ships.

“The opening of a new South Quay at the Port of Khalifa is an important addition to our country’s port infrastructure,” Sheikh Mohammed wrote on Twitter.

The Abu Dhabi Ports said in its first day’s operations that “the introduction of the southern Queen will be accompanied by the development of the nearby Khalifa port logistics, which will dramatically increase the capacity of the Khalifa port to handle any cargo and serve a wide variety of customers.”

Abu Dhabi has risen 12 per cent to $ 124 billion ($ 33.7 billion) in the first half of this year. Total exports rose 26 percent to $ 49.5 billion in the six months of June, while imports and re-exports increased by 4 percent and 6 percent to $ 51.5 billion and $ 23 billion, according to the Abu Dhabi media office.

The Ports of Abu Dhabi are part of the ADQ, one of the largest holding companies in the region, which holds stakes in companies that are spread over key sectors of the economy, including media, applications, aviation and health care.
